I finally have a home! I am living in the 17th arrondissement, which is about 30 minutes from where my school is. It is actually a nice 20 minute walk down to the Champs-Elysees and in a beautiful residential neighborhood. My roomate and I were going to try to explore a bit today after our errands. Our host mother is going to take us to the main shopping road where she will show us the different grocery stores and other places we will need to go. Hopefully we will be able to get food and some other things we need.
The apartment is great. The man is definitely descended from some kind of nobility. They have a big family tree full of family crests and dates on their living room wall, and they both have 200 year old chairs and 150 year old rugs. They use everything, we just can't break them! He promised to tell us all the stories. Every Thursday or some time once during the week we have dinner that they make for us and we get to sit and talk together. They did it for us last night since we didn't have any food of our own and it was delicious. A nice little four course meal and it was perfect. Every Tuesday, her grandchildren also come over to play at her house and spend the night and I am very excited to play with them.
My room actually has its own little floor. You go up a small staircase and I have a great room with tons of space and two big windows. I could not get my two big suitcases up the tiny staircase, so I had to put everything in my smaller bags and go up and down for about an hour. I also figured out how to hook up to the internet and I am really happy about that! I am all unpacked and organized and I feel much more settled. The bathroom and shower are on the lower floor which hasn't been a problem so far. I managed to survive the shower which is actually a closet in the kitchen that has a shower in it.
This weekend we are just going to hang out before the preliminary course of French language review starts. Monday, our host dad is going to take us to school to show us the fastest way to go by metro. I thought that was pretty cute!
I will post next week when the French class starts.
